Carers element backdate refused

Hi can I ask a question, I applied for carers element last week for my partner on universal credit, she's been getting pip since 2022 but i didn't know i could apply for carers element until last week, universal credit sent me a letter today saying they won't backdate it because saying I didn't know isn't a good enough reason, is there anything that i can do. Thank you

You can submit a Mandatory Reconsideration of that decision, it will go to a different Decision Maker.

If they still refuse, you can appeal to an independent appeal tribunal hearing.
