Have you seen Flo Longhorn's list of favourite apps for ipad or ipod touch - http://www.choiceforum.org/docs/apps.pdf

I'm an android user and therefore can't comment on the content! ; )

Have a look around on http://www.gamebase.info/
and http://oneswitch.org.uk/ Tons of info on accessible gaming there.

Also a US site called http://www.ablegamers.com/

The people behind these sites are really friendly and helpful too.

    Best wishes, Duncan

If your child is use to PECs then I can't stop praising the ciommunication program ~Proloquo2Go purchased and updated via Itunes. A bit expensive but can be used for Iphones, laptops, Ipads etc etc and easy to transport.

Thanks so much for these suggestions. I am very excited about the ipad and am hopeful to find more and more good apps. I will look in to all of these. If you find out about any others please let me know.

    Hi Ruth,

I would suggest some of Kindergarden.coms applications such as "Receptive Identification I", "Healthy Habilts", "Which Does Not Belong", "What Rhymes", "Receptive by Function", and "Receptive Combined". If your child enjoys and learns by watching video clips the Functional Skills System applications of "Describing", "Dress", "Communication Skills", "Nouns", "Manners", "Personal", "Verbs I" (2 and 3), Social Skills Sampler" "Words Direct", "Everyday", and "Initiating" would all be good picks. With all these combined you've got a nice suplementary ABA therapist ! A couple other of my favorite learning tools would be "Fairytale Preschool", "Super Why", "Facial Expression Recognition Training" "Find and Learn" and "Preschool Tap" My students favorite applications which are also great learning tools are called "Adventure" and "Lunch box" (#1 greatest hit !!) Best of luck to you and yours: )

My ASD daughter has very limited attention & resists direction. She likes a game for the ipod called SNAKES by My First Game (the 'lite' version is free). It is a simple colourful game that provides instant reward & that she can do successfully on her own. I'm trying to encourage her interest in the ipod in the hope that I can introduce her to more apps, and this seems to fit the bill. I've found it very time-consuming looking for appropriate apps, though, and I'm sure there are loads of others she'd like. I'll keep checking this thread... Oh, she also enjoys 'DRUMS' which provides a realistic looking finger drum kit.

It's not an APP - but it is great for people with learning disabilities and is particularly great on touch screens - it's Dobson's Choice : http://www.dobsonschoice.co.uk It's a 'Google' for people with learning disabilities. It enables people to find safe, accessible, relevant video and multimedia content on the internet.

I also create websites for people with learning disabilities, where all the content is read out on videos. See http://www.easy-read-online.co.uk

Do take a look at our Computer/gaming section too as there are several apps recommended by people in there.
