As you may be aware Cerebral Palsy Sport, the National Disability Sport Organisation for people with CP in England and Wales, are running several development days, training workshops and development galas across Wales, in partnership with Swim Wales and the Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust. This is the charities first planned programme of activity in Wales and we are hoping to involve as many swimmers with CP and physical disabilities as possible. All of our activities are open to swimmers of all abilities.
A Swimstart Day consists of two elements. The first is a training workshop for swimming teachers, coaches, physios, parents and teachers who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of swimming and physical disability. The workshop lasts for approximately 2 hours and takes place in a classroom location, centred around inclusive activities, safe practice, handling and the development of aquatic skills. The workshop also covers the factors affecting swimmers with cerebral palsy and physical disabilities. A DVD learning resource is also included for attendees.
The second part of the day includes a 60-90 min swimming session for local people with CP or physical disabilities. The session is supported by workshop attendees and provides a safe and supportive environment for children and adults with CP to try swimming for the first time and can then be directed to a local sustainable opportunity, such as a learn to swim programme. Sessions are open to people of all ages. We would also be happy for your organisation to promote any relevant opportunities at these events, so if anyone would like to attend or you would like to distribute marketing materials, please feel free to forward these to me via the below.
The next training workshops and intro sessions (Swimstart) in South Wales are as follows:
16th August- Newport http://www.cpsport.org/news-events/events/swimstart-development-day-newport
We also have scheduled a number of development galas, which offer a friendly and fun introduction to competitive swimming. Each gala runs for approximately 3 hours and are open to ages 7 and up. If anyone within your network may be interested in these opportunities, please feel free to pass the information to them or if you are able to share the information via your website or social media, this again would be fantastic. We can be found on Twitter via Twitter: (at) CP_Sport.
The next gala date in South Wales is as follows:
22nd August- Fairwater http://www.cpsport.org/news-events/events/swimming-development-gala-fairwater
If you have any questions regarding the above or any of our events, please do not hesitate to contact me. Please also feel free to share this information with anyone else you think may be interested in this information.

Sounds really great
Is it likely that this will be run in other parts of the UK in the future? -
Hi Noah, Thanks for your message. We will absolutely be running regional events across England and Wales. More details can be viewed on the website, which is updated regularly: http://www.cpsport.org/news-events/events?qs=1&filtercategory=Swimming
I hope this helps.
