    Hi Chris, I'm thinking about buying a ipad for my son, he is 9 yrs old and autistic. he's non verbal but uses pecs, he has used touch screen computers and has now started to drag,click and use the scroll bar with the mouse and can type with the large button keypads. I've heard about proloquo2go and thought it may be helpfull for him to develop his communication when out and about as taking all the pecs can be too much for us, but was wondering what other apps may be available or that you think might be useful and do you know does the carry case that inclusive tech do for the ipad effect its performance, can the pad still be used when in the case? many thanks Louise

    Thanks for your question. There is a fantastic article written by Marion Stanton on the ‘Info Packs' section of this site which covers various communication Apps for the Ipad and recommends other Apps that you may find useful.

    I think the thing with the Ipad is that you just never know what App someone may find they can achieve at or find enjoyable and functional. I am being amazed by students during assessments who have struggled for years to use switches and other access methods but are able to use the touch-screen of the Ipad, even if it is just for a couple of games. It really has opened up a new realm of functional play, communication and enjoyment for many people. There are now quite a few other "tablet" devices, similar to the Ipad on the market which are worth looking at as well. I think the best thing you can do is to try and borrow one and test it out. Perhaps speak to your local Speech and Language department to see if you can loan one. If you get stuck, contact the Netbuddy team for my contact details and we can see if we can put you in touch with someone who maybe able to offer an assessment or trial.

    As for the cover from Inclusive Technology - I haven't actually used one with anyone yet but I understand that you can use the Ipad when in the case. It looks pretty good to me!
