The Global Disability Innovation Hub is working with Engineering PhD and Senior Research students from UCL on a project called 'Grand Challenges'. The idea is that teams come together to develop a piece of kit, App etc that will improve the independence of disabled people. The idea or 'challenge' must come from a disabled person. All the ideas generated will be interrogated at a workshop in London on March 16 and 17 and the best four ideas will be taken forward for the teams to work on over the following 6 months. Each of the teams will be given £10k to develop each project.

Physio on the NHS for people with cerebral palsy. Protections for those who employ own assistants. Accessible housing and transport.
Flexible benefits - not all or nothing. Care workers need to learn about equity and the social model. Tailor housing to individual.
Reverse decision to scrap DSA! Enough money in direct payments to make switch from agency viable.
Light & portable but strong turntables and other equipment. Make wheelchairs & equip a reasonable cost - and govt support cost. -
