Hello all im hoping i can possibly get some answers . My mother as numerous health issues and was awarded ESA , she also applied for PIP unfortunately got refused , after trying a second time and being refused again , we as a family decided it was causing too much pressure on my mothers health to appeal against their decission so decided leave it to their ignorance. My mother can barely afford to live on the income she as , if we encouraged and assisted her to go into some paid work this would help her both financially and mentally as she is detteriating due to feeling dependant upon us . I have joined this site hoping for advice , she is in the income related support group could you let me know how her benefits would be affected .

Hi louise123 welcome to the Scope community and sorry to hear of your problems.
You can earn up to £120 a week or work no more than 16 hours a week. Thats the main rules with permitted work without it affecting your ESA.Here is a link to help you more https://www.gov.uk/employment-support-allowance/eligibility -
Hi @louise123,
Citizens Advice have a handy section on their website about work you can do while getting ESA which you may find helpful.
Our Benefits Advisors also recently responded to a similar query from another member of our community about ESA and permitted work. Their response includes further information about the requirements along with some tips which may be of interest to you.
I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, then please do get in touch!
Liam
