    Hi Richard

Simple answer is that nobody can force you to take any medication or treatment against your will.

However before refusing to take  medication please seek advice from your prescribing GP or specialist. I know that taking some medication can have unpleasant side effects but these should be discussed before any change.

Though taking medication can help a PIP claimant's case.  My Atos assessor wrote in her report that I take a 'mild' painkiller for rheumatoid arthritis, completely ignoring the two very heavy medications I take to modify the disease itself!  And the painkiller is prescription only.  That I take two very strong meds certainly helped me win my tribunal appeal.

We cannot give medical advice on here, so please talk to your GP or specialist about it before you do anything.
Of course we will still be here to support you what ever happens

Me i am up for a meds review after being to hospital on friday. Got cptsd and neuropafaic pain from a shoulder injury. Cause a serious hemaplaic mirgrine and doctor thought i was having a heart attack or stroke. Am on nerve inhibutors nasids and 4 types of anti drepressents and my body cannot cope with meds. Turns out i had a nurophatic message sent to my chest to contract muscles around my rib cage which crushed my heart. Went blue on my left side and was unable to speak scared paramedics. Gp neuroglists and shrinks now have to form a plan for my meds. Everything i take conficts with each other. Wish them best of luck.

It depends on the medication and its use I think. Be prepared for somebody claiming you are refusing to take a treatment which can improve your ability to function etc. At the end of the day it is your body and mind and you have a right to plan your care in conjunction with your health are provider.

    Hello richard81

You should not be refused benefit because you are not taking prescribed medication.  Benefit can only be refused if a person does not obtain for example sufficient points for PIP/ESA to be awarded.

If prescribed an assessor may ask why medication is not being taken (if they realise that this is the case). This maybe in order to see if you need prompting to take medication.  They should also consider the side effects of medication.

As CR said keep us posted.

    Maria
