    Hi @Moggy

There is a range of technologies available it all depends upon what you want to do. Do you want a technology that can talk for you or do you want something that you can instruct verbally?

    Hi Andy assistive,
I want something that can talk for me as I believe that shortly I will not be able to speak at all.  I am pretty good with a keyboard and can touch type.

    Hi Margaret
There are numerous options available, the technology is Augmentative and Alternative Communication and is usually referred to as AAC. The Communication Matters web site is really useful. http://www.communicationmatters.org.uk/

Depending upon your needs and any kit like a smartphone or iPad etc that you might already have it may be worth thinking about an app on a small device rather than a larger system, searching for AAC in Google Play or Apple Store will bring up some options that are free, and others that are charged for.
You will find that some apps are aimed at young people and may be too limited in vocabulary but others like Grid Player (on an ipad or iphone) linked with Grid 3 (on a PC) can be customised substantially to suit you and the words that you want to have available.

You may also be eligible for assistance with assessment and equipment from the NHS, there's info on the Communication Matters site and you will find other guidance if you search using "NHS AAC funding".
