Is the disability premium connected to dla care?

I notice on the websites it says if you were receiving middle to high rate dla care, you could be entitled to the disability premium. I know people who haven't applied because they didn't know of it's existence.

But if that's the case if your care stops because they haven't awarded standard pip, or you reach an end date and don't apply- will the premium disappear as well?

Does anyone know why it's linked to ESA in this way?

    Hi whistles

The disability premium should be automatically added to income support or income based JSA

and will stop if you lose DLA or PIP

You cannot receive  this if you receive ESA IR

There are two other premiums that may be paid with ESA IR

Severe disability premium and enhanced DP

All premiums are means tested which is why they are attached to ESA/JSA

So losing my DLA care means they are also going to take £62 a week off me.
What do they think I am going to live on?
    I got mobility.

Sorry this is not good news

ESA is the benefit paid if you are unable to work due to illness or disability etc. This is the benefit for you to "live" on

The other benefits are paid in recognition of extra expenses that you may occur

DLA/PIP care is paid to assist you with the extra cost of managing daily activities
DLA/PIP mobility is to help you get around

    Don't shoot the messenger

My ESA will be cut as well that's the puzzling bit to me.
I'm still in the support group as unfit for work.

In what way, other than the SDP, is your ESA being cut ?

    Hi @Whistles

If you're on Support Group ESA, you will continue to get the 'Enhanced Disability Premium', but yes as CR states the 'Severe Disability Premium' will go.

The reason it is linked is recognition that disabled people need additional amounts for the 'income replacement' benefits (IS/ESA/JSA/etc) as well as the amounts they receive for their disability benefits - i.e. it makes the system more generous for disabled people.

If you think the PIP award is incorrect then you need to challenge this.

    Kind regards,

    Mary

I get £188, so it will drop to the £109 support group?

If you are getting IR ESA then you should still get the EDP which is £15.90pw
If you lose the IR element then you will lose this as well

I thought it was contribution based. I have no income.
That's why it's a bit of a shock to potentially lose £134 just like that.
