Hi @Debso12, welcome to the community!
We don't appear to have had anybody mention this condition on the community so far, would you like to tell us some more about it?0 -
Hello @Debso12,
Yes 10 years of taking steroids has trashed my skeleton. One of a multitude of side effects of treatment following a bone marrow transplant.
I was due for a double hip replacement some years ago. I never went through with it as the life of an artificial joint is only around 15 years and following a dose reduction I actually recovered some bone. Although this is unheard of for hips apparently.
The surgery will help for a while but unless the cause is stopped, deterioration of the surrounding bone will begin again.
There doesn't seem to be anything that can be done to ease the pain. I find myself having to turn over many times during the night while in bed.

Hello Deb, I have been diagnosed with avn and I am waiting to see the consultant as I have no blood flow through my left hip joint and diagnosed with arthritis now due to fighting for an answer for over 18months, I also don't sleep and find myself trying to turn as it feels like my hip is on fire. I hope you get news of your operation soon.0

Hello @trac66
I'm sorry to hear you have been fighting for so long. I hope the appointment with your consultant comes round soon!1 -
Hi, I too have avn in both hips. Took 2 years from onset to get diagnosed. Unfortunately I am one of the super unlucky, I cannot have a replacement due to having multiple conditions that risk my health and recovery. I can only sleep on my back, use a wheelchair and just get on with it.
I'm 7 years down the line now. I can still drive and have a life of sorts. I kayak, have an allotment and work quarter time (4 hrs a week.) The pain can be off the scale at times but I've got used to it to a point and pain medication helps. As long as I can keep on going I will be OK, that's the main thing.
I hope you all find a pain free way forward and know your not alone0 -
