Why do we have to supply 6years of bank statements for the ESA 3 form.

The main reason is to make sure you have not had savings and disposed of money to enable you to claim benefits, but asking for Six years back bank statements seems excessive.0

It's not excessive. It's simply checking for savings/income for the time your claiming for. DWP won't just award a means tested benefit without checking, it's part of the process to being assessed.

Asking for personal bank statements without reasonable cause is excessive. There is no reason to see direct debits etc either, they should be blacked out and if it’s true what they claim “they aren’t interested what you send your money on” it should be as simple as incomings, outgoings, savings.
