Hi everyone, I saw tonight on the news that people that are claiming universal credit or looking to claim it that your rent you receive from housing benefit for your landlord is sent directly to them..I have stayed in my property for 3 years and my landlord is against housing benefit so if he knew I was receiving housing benefit then I would be told to leave. What happens? I have never been late etc with the rent in the whole 3 years. Thank you.

Donu have a tenancy contract. If so and it doesnt specifically state that they dont accept this method of rent payment then he cant refuse you.

I'm council rach I think people on uc can ask for the rent to be paid direct to there landlord if they wish . But there are people in the forum who will explain things better to you I'm sure . Good luck 👍

When you transfer to UC then you'll need your tenancy agree to be able to claim the housing element, if you're privately renting. You have an option of it being paid to you or directly to your landlord.

Some mortgage companies won't allow landlords to rent to those claiming benefits, i'm not sure what would happen if your LL found out.
