Hello everyone I hope this guide will be useful! I have used a lot of different software both paid and free. Some of the applications can be really expensive! I wanted to share with you some of the best applications for Windows that are free that I use and are good alternatives to paid software.

For Office Work:

LibreOffice (Microsoft Office alternative)
LibreOffice has been in development for a long time, it is free and open source with good compatibility with office software.

For Photo/Image Editing/Viewing:

GIMP (Adobe Photoshop alternative)
GIMP has a great range of features, that gives you a good number of tools for image editing.

Inkscape (Adobe Illustrator alternative)
Is good for general graphic design, with a nice selection of tools and filters.

IrfanView (Windows Photo Viewer alternative)
A simple but fast and feature packed image viewer.

For Desktop Publishing:

Scribus (Adobe InDesign/QuarkXPress alternative)
Scribus has great range of features, colour management and layout/print options.

For Internet Security:

Comodo Internet Security Premium (Norton/McAffee alternative)
Comodo Premium is a free Firewall with an anti-virus/anti-spyware scanner/monitor built in. Having been using this for over 5 years, I can say it has been excellent.

For Video Playback:

VLC Media Player (Windows Media Player alternative)
Popular with Windows and Linux users, this open source program has a great range of compatibility for various video formats.

For File Recovery:

Recuva
Recuva (free version) is good for recovering images, documents and other files.

If anyone else has any other programs they would like to add feel free! Thanks.

Anthony
