Hello @OverlyAnxious Very poignant interesting song Sitting on the Dock Of The Bay.
I am a fan of Otis Redding and his music. Signed for Stax in the Sixties 1965 did a tour. In the UK as well no one had ever seen any one like this before.
Lots of influences effected groups of the time , many claimed to use Otis as role model and his music.
Memorable TV show Ready Steady Go, sang with Chris Farlow and Eric Burdon on the show.
His albums failed to sell in the States so they used pretty girls on the album cover as black artist sales some places. Deep South did not sell.
Steve Cropper a member of the writing team at Stax and producer also a major artist him self with Booker T and the MG's.
Wrote the song with Otis Redding.
Last track on an Album they were going to release around December.
Otis had a gig and had to fly out he did the next day this being December the 8th 1968. The plane he had flown crashed in to Clear Lake.
Killed along with members of his group and members of The Barkays one of the Stax bands.
Took three days to recover his body he was only 27. Left with a widow and a child.
Steve Cropper membered this being the last track and it was released.
Went to No1 in the States and sold a million plus in this Country.
The voice you hear is the final recording of Otis ever singing.
Reason why I get emotional and still think what could have been.
One track to look at listening to I can not Stop Loving You the saxophone haunting mellow voice and the riffs.
Those are songs that to the heart cause emotions.
Since his death have been released recordings, albums. On CD . Got a considerable collection many of them just too good.
Good dance and soul music.
Some times we forget how these music pioneers started influencing others of today.
He was one of the first black artists to have his own record label and agency.

The reason we all listen to these songs. Especially Otis and lots of the other minor soul stars who never got recognised.
Have to acknowledge The Beatles. Early recordings show soul stars. Arthur Alexander and songs written by these greats. Never got paid or little royalties.
In America in the 60's. Because they were black and some were old. I recall John Lennon mentioned that they used one of Arthur Alexanders songs, he got paid and got a life.
Met him in a concert back stage John Lennon and how appreciated he was to be told they actually have money.
Must remember the good old USA racial separated in the 60's artists were used, abused and paid nothing.
This is why this age a lot of recent court cases and lots of ligation for royalties due.
On songs. Another reason why these souls stars are performing still.
There ageing have financial insecurity.
Age is just a number. When I used to do markets had a lot of teenagers visiting the stalls. To buy 60''s records.
Were not born at all.
Motown so many artists and songs. Not all about Diane Ross the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, the other superstars.
Lot more to listen to.

Anything with a foot stomping bassline is definitely a contender though! Plus anything with a smooth harmony and/or powerful vocal! Oh, and anything with a bit of sax! I guess what I like most about the Motown stuff in general is that I can always get into it, either tapping, nodding, clicking away to the basslines, trying to hold a note or trying to harmonize with the groups... I'm sure my neighbours appreciate all of that as much as I do!
