My sister Tizzy has severe cp and learning difficulties. She is an adult and we live in the London Borough of Greenwich. I am looking for recommendations of an orthopaedic sergeon who specialises in cp or even just an adult cp consultant. I am really hoping someone can help. X

Hi steve51 Thank you for the links you sent me. These all look like private consultants. I was wondering more if anyone new of an NHS consultants.
I may however call the hospital and see if they know. Thanks again x

Hi @Tizathome and welcome also to the Community.  It is nice to meet you.  I hope you have some luck in finding some NHS consultants.  You will find a lot of discussions that go on from time to time regarding CP on the forum so you may find these interesting for general info.  I am also tagging in @Richard_Scope, Scope's Specialist Information Officer, to see if he can be of any help to you and your sister also.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you and your sister are getting on and if we can be of any help/support to you then please just let us know.  All the best.

    Hi @Tizathome
    Great to meet you!
The first thing that you should do is ask your sister's G.P. to refer her to an orthopaedic consultant or neuro-physiotherapist. Are there specific problems that your sister is encountering?

She had her hip dislocated as a child and lived with it until I became her carer in 2006. She had a girdlestone opporation (hip joint removed) in 2007. Since then the other hip has moved and her leg now is out slightly to the side (like a frog) and we have been told that her pelvis is twisting. She has seen orthopaedic surgeons who look at the xray and say because she can't weight bare we are better off doing nothing. She cannot communicate verbally but is getting very agitated and hitting herself. I know she is in pain. I just thought if I had a name of someone she could see then the gp would refer her.
Thank you to all who are trying to help x

Hi again @Tizathome - I've been trying to find an orthopaedic consultant with an interest in CP for Tizzy. As Richard says above, your first port of call should be your GP, but I have found specialists in the adult CP field that may be able to help, whether it's an orthopaedic consultant or not. See: http://adultcphub.org/living-with-cp/professional-directory/
Alternatively, you could contact the charity directly, & ask for their advice.
I hope this helps, & do please keep in touch, & let us know how you're both getting on. :)

    Dear Chiarieds
Thank you sooo much. I will look into the consultants you found and ask gp about them too.
I have already spoke to the charity themselves and they told me to try on here as they couldn't help. Thank you so much for your help x

    Hi @Tizathome
I can recommend the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital. I had 26 surgeries there.

Sorry for late reply Richard. Thank you for your recommendation. Unfortunately the hospital is a bit far away for us. We are in London x

Hi @Tizathome, University College Hospital in London has a multi-disciplinary service for adults living with CP and is much closer to home!

Dear Richard. Thank you so much. I'm having a real issue with gp getting her referred to orthopaedics. Maybe getting referred to cp specialist will be easier. Keep fingers crossed xx

There is no CP 'specialists' @Tizathome. CP is managed by a multi-disciplinary approach. Orthopaedics, Neurologists and Physiotherapists, all working together. Well, that's how it should work.
What is the issue for the G.P.?

    Hi Richard
Because tiz has been referred to orthopaedics twice and have both just looked at xrays and said that because she is not weight bearing an operation is not viable. Without examining her. He's reluctant to refer again.
Hopefully if I go down the cp route we might get somewhere.
Thank you for your help x
