UC Housing Element and PIP

Hi,I live with my wife and an adult son in rented accommodation. My son claims ESA in his own right, and since the beginning we have had so much deducted from our monthly payment due to our son being expected to contribute something to the housing costs.
In our last payment of UC since we got PIP his expected contribution has disappeared from our UC payment statement.
Now today we get a notification that our housing element had increased since the date our PIP was back dated to and as such they have given us some cash they say we are owed in terms of Housing Element.

Is this all normal. Has my son been discounted accidentally and will we have to pay this cash back?
Many thanks.

    HI,

As you're now receiving PIP then there's no longer any non dependant deductions on your UC housing element because they no longer apply. Having said that if your son is under 21 then there should never have been any non dependant deductions at all. See link for confirmation. https://www.disabilityrightsuk.org/universal-credit-non-dependant-deductions

You will not have to pay back any of the money that you received.

Hello @Redeemed. This all sounds normal. As Poppy mentioned, now you're in receipt of PIP there shouldn't be any deductions to your housing element now and this should be backdated to when your PIP began.
