Need help moving

ColumboColumbo Member Posts: 15 Listener
Hi. I have been through the council (housing and social services), through various housing associations and charities but can not find the support I need. I desperately want to move for several reasons, not least is my CP getting worse. Can anyone recommend someone to actually physically talk to face-to-face so that I can really discuss my circumstances?

Hi @Columbo welcome to great community

Have you had a care needs assessment done this is where you are assessed by OOH and they can make recommendations to your council and this can sometimes give you a higher priority

You can refer yourself online on the gov website

Another idea is contacted the shelter charity

    Good luck with your search

    What about private rent

    HI,

When you say you need help moving, have you actually found somewhere else to live or do you need help with finding somewhere? Are you currently renting privately or social housing?

@Columbo Have you tried Citizens Advice in your area?

They are very good here in Medway, a fantastic team of dedicated people who have now geared up to assist people with problems due to covid.

I would be surprised if they could not help in some way..

You may find the "face to face" appointments you seek are not being carried out right now but they are great at what they do.

This may not be very easy. If you're claiming benefits for help with the rent then it could potentially be very difficult because a lot of landlords won't accept tenants claiming benefits. If they do then they could ask for a guarantor.

Try doing a search on the internet to see what you can find in the area that you're looking for.
    Have a look here http://www.dssmove.co.uk/

Also gumtree for your area may have some propertie suitable. I'm not sure how helpful shelter will be for this but you can try them. https://england.shelter.org.uk/donate?reserved_appeal_code=20200401-DF-14&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIz9GlvdXh6wIVshoGAB3hDgMgEAAYASAAEgLM0_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Hi @Columbo, sorry to hear you feel your CP is getting worse. Have you spoken to your GP about this?

I'm also tagging @Richard_Scope who is our CP officer and might be able to suggest something. :)

    Thanks, @Chloe_Scope and Hi @Columbo
It's good to meet you. Is the reason that you are looking to move due to the change in your CP? If it is, you can contact your local authority's social care team and ask for an occupational therapist assessment of your living arrangements. You should also be able to self refer.
@poppy123456 has given some great advice and links. You might also want to try Ability Housing AssociationAbleize we also have some information about Housing and home adaptions
In terms of your CP, as we age the physical condition can change whilst the neurological aspect remains the same. There are lots that can be done to address this. First, contact your G.P. who should put you on to the CP Care Pathway and refer you to one of the multi-disciplinary centres in England.
