Special Footwear

Hi Everyone, I'm supporting a mum whose son has been given specialist boots to help him as he's got dystonia in his ankles. The boots were provided on the NHS but she says they're far too heavy and she would be happy to purchase some lighter ones herself. She's aware they need to be sturdy but says her son is getting very tired lifting such heavy boots. Do any of you have any recommendations for companies that do specialist footwear? Thanks

I dont know about specialist footwear but maybe try Clarks as they will provide tailored fitting also I think Clinkard do something similar

@janer1967 thanks but Clarks won't do such specialist footwear for disabilities i'm afraid. I haven't heard of Clinkard thought so i'll google them. Thanks very much for your reply.

I hope other members may have some ideas for you, I know the NHS supply shoes are not the best for comfort but the orthotics dept can often recommend suppliers where you can purchase your own rather than the NHS standard. It may be worth discussing with them

Thanks @janer1967 i've been doing some googling and making some phone calls and found a specialist footwear place called Piedro but they did say that it's highly possible, considering where the family lives, that they made the boots for the NHS that the boy has now. They recommended that she ring them next week when they have a very experienced orthotist visiting and hopefully he can give her some expert advice.

Thanks for the update @NPUK, hopefully that phone call goes well
Glad the Googling and calling paid off!
