Hello!
Do spasms get more frequent the older you get? Am 77 and have CP on the left side only and have noticed that they are happening more often

Hi @norahmay! Just to let you know, I've moved your post into the cerebral palsy category :)

We have a page on our website about ageing and cerebral palsy, which suggests that spasms can become more common as you get older.
Some long-term effects of ageing and CP can include:
    • increased levels of pain and discomfort
    • osteoarthritis (pain and stiffness in the joints)
    • increase in spasms
    • increase in contractures (shortening of muscles)
    • tight muscles
    • digestion problems
    • new or increased back pain
    • incontinence
I'll tag in our Specialist Information Officer for CP here, as I'm sure he'll have some more insight! @Richard_Scope

    Hi @norahmay
I'm sorry to read that your spasms have become more frequent. This can happen as we age. Are the spasms more frequent after you do a certain task?

    Hello Richard
It's fine during the day, hardly any at all, only happens at night and of course wakes me up. Another of the joys of old age!
    Many thanks

    Hi @norahmay

Do they always happen at night or just when you've had a particularly busy day and possibly overdone it a bit?

    Hi Richard
I'm very lucky as the CP is very mild and only on the left side. I've never had them during the day unless something makes me jump then the left side does go into a spasm. Only reaction l get from having a busy day is just feel very tired.
