I enjoy the cooking threads on here but I am unable to do most cooking due to my issues so sadly don’t get to try the recipes out. However I do love a cocktail and this is something I am sometimes able to make, so I am wondering if anyone else is into them and wants to share any recipes. I will share a few below.
A few of my favourites........
Old Fashioned
2 oz / 50 ml bourbon
0.5 oz / 12.5 ml sugar syrup
A few dashes of Angostura Bitters or Orange Bitters
Serve over ice. 2 units of alcohol.
Daiquiri
2 oz / 50 ml white rum
1 oz / 25 ml sugar syrup
1 oz / 25 ml lime juice
Shake in a cocktail shaker with ice then pour the liquid only into a glass. 2 units of alcohol.
Whiskey Sour
2 oz / 50 ml whisk(e)y
1 oz / 25 ml sugar syrup
1 oz / 25 ml lemon juice
Pour into a glass with ice and stir. 2 units of alcohol.
Bramble
1 1/2 oz / 37.5 ml gin
1 oz / 25 ml lemon juice
1 oz / 25 ml sugar syrup
1/2 oz / 12.5 ml blackcurrant liqueur
Optional: soda water
Pour into a glass with ice and stir. Optional: add soda water to make the drink longer and less strong. 2 units of alcohol.
And one non alcoholic one which I think is delicious...
Shirley Temple
1 oz / 25 ml sugar syrup
1/2 oz / 12.5 ml grenadine
Ginger ale
Add the sugar syrup and grenadine to a glass filled with ice and top up with ginger ale. 0 units of alcohol.
Over to you!
PS sorry if alcohol threads are not allowed, please remember to drink responsibly.

Hi @66Mustang - I'm not into cocktails, tho love the taste of Angostura Bitters....think I had this many moons ago probably in a Martini, but have also used it in cooking. I do like anything with a herbal taste, which is probably why I like Pernod. I googled & was really surprised there are Pernod-based cocktails!Have you tried Underberg?....something else from my mis-spent youth, tho my best friend remembered I had liked it; something I'd completely forgotten about. He sent me 3 bottles of this a little while ago.....lovely. I always just drank it neat (miniature bottles), but it is also a bitter. I asked about it in our local off licence, & one member of staff knew about it; apparently to some it was the 'hair of the dog' that you drank neat in the morning! The sugar syrup in the above cocktails seems just a tad naughty for someone trying to lose weight, & I've just found Underberg online, & am tempted!

@chiarieds I’ve never heard of that, I will have to look it up.You are right about the sugar syrup...I didn’t realise until you pointed out about it that all of the cocktails I suggested contain sugar syrup
If you like bitter, do you like Campari? Another of my favourite cocktails, that doesn’t contain sugar syrup, is the Negroni, which is equal parts Campari, sweet vermouth and gin. I have heard Campari is popular with soda water. -
No idea what's in it but my favourite is "sex on the beach"Be extra nice to new members.

I’ve never had that @woodbine, I think it has vodka and orange juice in it? And maybe some other fruit juices?

mines was a strawberry darquiri? I used to get them in Florida when i was an air steward x

I’m sorry to hear that. Have you tried non-alcoholic cocktails? There are dozens, probably hundreds, of them and they are really nice. I’d even go as far as to say that some of them are nicer than alcoholic cocktails.

I second mocktails @Parrot123! They can taste really nice.
There are lots of cocktails I like, but I love Pina Coladas (and getting caught in the rain etc.) in particular @66Mustang. I also had a really authentic Mojito at a Mexican restaurant not long ago and it was delicious.
A Sex on the Beach is vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice and cranberry juice according to Google.Online Community Coordinator, she/her

Sometimes an alcoholic cocktail can be nice if you just take out the alcohol, too.
Sometimes, the alcohol is only in there to give you the effect of alcohol, not to enhance the flavour. In fact, sometimes the other ingredients are there to make the alcohol more drinkable. I think this comes from America when alcohol was illegal and people made their own which was so foul that they had to add other flavours to make it drinkable!
A good example is the tequila sunrise which is tequila mixed with orange juice and grenadine floated in the bottom. I sometimes for breakfast just take a glass of orange juice and float grenadine in it and it’s delicious, I like it as much if not more than if it has the tequila in it. -
Two of my favourites already been mentioned Strawberry Daquiri and Sex on the Beach I like the fruit based ones and so mocktails are also nice.
I have been wanting to try a porn star martini -
Wow thanks for this thread @66Mustang, I'm not a big drinker but I do enjoy trying new, interesting flavours
My history with cocktails isn't extensive, purple rain and sex on the beach are the only two I've tried. But I will be saving this thread and referring back to it in the future to try some of these
