Hello @read It's lovely to meet you. Well done you for acting on something you are passionate about.
I agree that disability should be a core component of children's primary curriculum and there's many academic studies to back up that it deserves its place there. For more information on research conducted, visit the University of Leeds Disability Equality in English Primary Schools webpage or read this ESCR article.
Have you thought about sharing the petition link on social media sites to get more signatures? You could even tag in high profile disability advocates and disabled celebrities to share it with their networks. If you need any help give me a shout and I will do my best to support you with it . Good luck!

Hi @read,
How are you? Firstly, thank you for joining us and welcome to the community. Thank you for sharing your petition with us, it is such an important topic and I applaud you in following your passion and trying to make change that is needed. This is something I am very passionate about and something I too am trying to implement. I believe if children are educated about disability it massively reduces stigma and I think it helps disabled people to feel less isolated, but we have a long way to go to achieve this and so I support your petition. I have signed and will share. Thank you.0 -

Hi @read,
Hope that you are well. I am also keen to talk about disability inclusion in the curriculum and also raising awareness of different disability and removing this idea that disabled people are unable to do certain things. Please may I ask, how do you think would be best to engage children in learning about disability? For me, one of the key elements is children visibly seeing people with disabilities within the school environment and the wider community. I am currently working with my old secondary school to see how I can use my experiences as a disabled person as part of their mentoring programme. There are so many ways to positively demonstrate how people with disabilities positively contribute to society and that by understanding disability we can all work together for a society where there is equality for all. I have also posted here on the community to try to understand other people's thoughts on this very important topic, very happy to share these with you. Thank you.
Thank you @Cher_Scope, I look forward to the conversations with @read, thank you.0 -
thanks i would love to talk about the issues I've emailed BBC east of England to promote my petition0

Hi @read,
Brilliant, please do let us know how you get on with the BBC East of England with regard to promoting your petition. Please may I ask, what issue would you like to talk about first? Please may I ask a question, how best do you feel is it to increase disability awareness in schools? By this I mean in what format do you think would work best? Thank you0 -
@WestHam06 they sent me a number to contact their team on so I will contact them I've got 71 signature now0
-
@WestHam06 i was thinking that they could put it in psche or maybe an assembly0
-
Hi @read,
That's brilliant that you have 71 signitures and that you have a contact number for BBC East of England, please may I ask have you mananged to contact them? I really like the idea of an assembly or as a more long term plan incorporating it as part of PSHE or Citinzenship depending what terminology for lessons the school uses. Please may I ask do you think it would be more appropriate to have disabilitiy specific lessons or assemblies such as a lesson about Cerebral Palsy and a lesson about Autism or do you think the lesson or assesmbly should be more generally about disability? Thank you0
