    Hi and welcome

It shouldn't change anything for PIP as it doesn't affect how his disability affects his daily living and mobility

Has his level of care changed or is it just that care is being given by different resource now . I would imagine his care needs are still the same so this doesn't affect his PIP

Hi many thanks for your reply. I’ve read in some places that his care component will stop as he is now residential, his placement is funded by the local authority. His level of care has not changed.

Thank you @lisathomas50 and @janer1967. You don’t know how much it means to have people to talk too. Just out of interest @lisathomas50 which college did your son start? My son is at star college funded by our local authority, was a hell of a fight to secure funding but it’s payed off!

@jamie3994 I have heard of star college its very good I have heard  it is hard to get funding  I had to get the help of a social worker  I secured his funding for his support one on one in  Swansea which is good

I cannot sing their praises enough at star college! Funding was a massive hurdle, what helped was all the colleges in my local authority saying they couldn’t meet his needs so the local authority had little choice in the end! We are in south glos and they are notorious for being rubbish! Amazing job getting the funding for one to one support!

Hi @jamie3994 - & welcome. With apologies for the very late response, & thank you for tagging me @janer1967
My understanding is that after 28 days your son's daily living/care component will stop as he's in residential care. The mobility part of his PIP will continue to be paid, however. Please see: https://www.turn2us.org.uk/Benefit-guides/Care-homes-and-benefits/Benefits-that-stop-being-paid-if-you-live-in-a-car#guide-content

    Hello @jamie3994

How are you? Welcome to the community. I hope everything goes well for your son in the placement.

Have you reported the change to the DWP?
