Another freedom day? Easing the rules on Covid

On August 16th. The government is yet again easing the rules on Covid. It seems to me they think it is all over? Certainly, a great deal of people will think and act so. With the new variant running wild all over the world and many countries talking about more lockdowns and mask wearing, have they got it right? For me, again it is too soon. Like others on here I have to be careful due to my condition. I believe we should have kept the rules longer and should do so now. We were on top of it, now once more we seem to be going backwards?
I got my second jab on March 12th while in hospital because the drugs were reducing my immune level and are still doing so. Listening to the experts it seems I am close to needing my third jab. So again, I think the release is too early.
Any thoughts?

I think it's too soon, the government's "learn to live with it" approach implies that they give up and let people do what they want.

I was really surprised in my town on freedom day, I'd say about 80 percent of people were still wearing masks and keeping their distance. I'm still cautious as I was on the extremely vulnerable shielding list, but it's good to see people not throwing all the rules out of the window.

Interesting to read others thoughts on this. I am not sure what the new 'rules' are. I don't even think the government knows yet. I just think that we should still be taking thinks easy for a little more time, just to be sure.
I get what you say @woodbine about comparing countries. I just wonder about people travelling to and from them, if they are allowed to do so.
I was also wondering about your thoughts on giving young people incentives (Freebies) for getting even the first jab? Is it a bit like a cover for a bribe?
What about giving those that got the jabs as early as possible something?

There are people who have had two jabs that are in hospital with the delta variant but not as many as those who haven't the vaccinated ones recover

    Hi @lisathomas50

Yep, you're right.  The statistics in this COVID-19 vaccine surveillance report (See. table 1 and 3) support what you are saying.  Don't forget to include trustworthy evidence to back up assertions, wherever possible.

My thoughts are with people who are particularly poorly due to COVID-19 right now  :(

I read the report with interest and like you my thoughts are with those that are suffering from Covid. The long Covid also seem to be a bad thing affecting many.
I still can't get my head around why some young people not only use the fact that they will not suffer badly from it as an excuse not to get the vaccine. But also use their 'rights' as a means not to get the jab. Everyone else around them also have 'rights'. Is it the right of an employer, night club, bar owner for instance to refuse entry to anyone who isn't vaccinated? They have the same 'rights' as those that refuse the jab to do so surely? It is their business after all.
