I have a pension of which I can draw £11.000 tax free, as I claim ESA and Pip will this affect my benefit's claim.

    @maryob good afternoon and welcome to scope.
    Is your ESA cont.based or income based or both?

    PIP will not be affected only income based benefits if you have more than £6,000 in capital they are reduced, over £16,000 and income based benefits cease.

    Other benefits like housing and council tax will also be affected by savings.

    I am on income based ESA so do you know by.how much, because I owe my sister £1000 for my mobility scooter and I have credit card debt of £ 4000 I want to pay off. Thanks for your reply

    Any capital over £6000 reduces your income based ESA by £1 for every £250, or part thereof, over £6000. 

    Do you have an option to take a partial withdrawal of the tax free lump sum?

    It's probably best to discuss this with someone who will understand the effect of taking the £11k on your benefits, welfare rights would be as good as anywhere,
