Hi All, how are you? I’m Heather, a 45 year young, been married for 24 yes, disabled For 20+ yrs after active sporting life. I’m a Mum of 2, aged 18 & 21, both have ASD, and I have an 18 month old grandson. I enjoy crochet, colouring for mindfulness, singing, chatting to others, offering mutual support, problem solving and sharing tips and ideas.
Looking for friendship, tips, support and info for my 18 year old son who has finished college and off to Uni mid September. I’m trying to find info if he’s entitled to claim any benefits whilst at home, and then at Uni, and tips on what to buy and preparing him and me for him moving out.
I look forward to offering mutual support and making friends. Thank you. ?

Hi @GeocachingGranny - welcome to the community & thank you for joining. Scope has some info here about Uni: https://www.scope.org.uk/advice-and-support/education/funding-for-college-and-university/Sorry I don't have any tips for your son leaving for Uni (I'm not sure how well I would have coped, but fortunately my son was able to travel to Uni each day from home!) but there are lists if you look online, from a small kettle, teabags & pasta to a duvet & bedding, e.g. https://www.familylives.org.uk/advice/teenagers/school-learning/getting-ready-for-university/If he hasn't learnt to cook some of his favourite foods, now's the time to try. My son now does most of the cooking for him & his wife. The first things I taught him to cook were macaroni cheese & shepherd's pie.
