IF YOU GET ESA (SUPPORT GROUP), CAN YOU REFER THIS AWARD IN SUPPORT OF A PIP CLAIM?

My husband receives ESA (Support Group) and retires in one years time when his ESA (Contribution Based) will end. Therefore we are considering applying for PIP. He was originally declined ESA with 0 points and ended up with around 21 at appeal. Would it be a good idea to refer to his ESA award when he applies for PIP? Thinking does the original award set a precedence? Also, does he have to be awarded the benefit before he retires or can he be awarded it after just so long as he applies before retirement date? Any advice or information greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the community
You can refer to esa in pip claims but they are different benefits with different criteria
He needs to apply for pip before retirement age and the date he applies is the start date not the decision date
However I would apply ASAP as new claim are taking around 10 months to complete currently0 -
Many thanks
