Are you allowed to drive if you have the Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of PIP ??
I'm new here and would be grateful to hear your feedback.
Thanks in advance.

Hi there and welcome to the community
Yes you can drive if you get enhanced mobility
By getting enhanced it opens up eligibility to get a car through the motability scheme0 -
My mental health condition means that sometimes I can't even get out of bed or look after myself. But other times I can do alot more. I'm just concerned that being on the enhanced rate means PIP wouldn't be ok with me being able to get around.0

They wouldn't link it to being eligible for a motability car if that was the case
As long as driving doesnt contradict the reason you are awarded pip and you have a valid driving licence and as stated above your condition doesn't disqualified you from driving then it is permitted0 -
Thank you0

If in doubt ask your doctor.
I was in a similar position r.e. whether I should be driving with my mental health conditions so asked (more than one) doctor and they said I am OK but was nice to get the confirmation.0 -
Thanks for your responses

This isn't as simple as it seems.
The only way to get Enhanced Mobility for mental health issues alone (without walking issues as well) is if you need another person to help complete familiar journeys.
So essentially, if you're mentally well enough to drive familiar journeys alone, you won't be eligible for a Motability car... Even if you rely on personal transport because you can't use any other form of public transport and need a specific type of vehicle...
