Hi. I am self employed and about to go off sick awaiting an operation. If I get a 'fit for work' note from my GP can I claim Universal Credit?

    You can claim UC if you are on a low income. It is not necessary to have a Fit Note to claim. However if you are ill you should indeed get a Fit Note and declare your health problems at the start of your claim and this will enable you to be referred for a Work Capability Assessment
