Hi there
I haven't personally had the surgery though my mum has
I would imagine you are already in pain with the condition
You should speak to your surgeon about after care and how this may affect you using crutches
You maybe better with a frame or elbow support for your crutches
Hope you get a solution and good luck for the surgery0 -
Just wanted some advice from someone who had been though it . Doctors only look at surgery0

Hopefully someone will be able to give you the advice you want I was only trying to help

Hi I have had surgery have use of my fingers but need help to walk thats the hardest part and need left hand done as soon as right recovered.0

It's good that you have use of your fingers @Carrie38
Do you need help walking because of your other wrist, the recovery of your right hand, or for another reason? I hope that it's not too long until your right hand recovers fully.

Hello Carrie - I have had about 6 hand surgeries over the years and walk with a crutch - also had a couple of hip surgeries and a broken leg. So totally understand your concerns. Sure the surgery will be fine but do try to get your self organised with your phone in a bag around your neck, plan microwave food and move furniture to accommodate - I moved a table in my kitchen so I had something to balance and hang onto whilst getting to the fridge. Maybe think about sleeping downstairs if u are worried about getting to the kitchen or putting food upstairs ? Also as you won't be able to grip the crutch for a while look at some leg exercises to keep your leg strength up. A Walker may be a better idea for you as someone else suggested. Main thing is don't worry and just think about the basics like having a supply of drinks and biscuits etc near your bed in case you struggle. Sure all will be fine and you will be amazed at how well you adapt1

Thank you iam taking it one day at a time I do have my mam and partner helping me. I am using a exercise bike to help with legs as agree best to keep them moving. It's the lack of independence and mobility that's hard . I am looking for soft crutches when I have recovered.0

Really glad you have got support. Try not to rush having the second hand done too soon . I rushed back to work so eventually ended up with multiple operations as I suspect I did too much too soon with the hand and it ended up clawed again so do take it easy and do the hand physio - just think of it as a brilliant excuse not to cook or clean for a while ! Good luck0

Thanks will review left hand in 6 weeks . Right needs to be strong enough to cope . Your right feel waitied on . Take care0
