How can I get an up to date assessment with an Educational Psychologist?

Hello. Do you know how I can get an up to date assessment with an educational psychologist so as to prove the effects of my learning difficulties? I am looking to present the report to adult social services so I can get more appropriate help for myself. I could ideally not want to have to pay a lot of money in order to get the assessment and report from an educational psychologist.

Hello @uk71 - I don't know if this is a possibility, but have you considered asking your GP to see if there are any records about your learning difficulties already in your medical history? It doesn't cost to get a copy of this.
Educational psychologists, I would have thought, assess children's needs whilst at school, not so much adults. Anyway, I'd try a talk with your GP, explaining your need for appropriate help, & see what they advise.

Social services wanted me to see if I can get a referral from my GP for an up to date educational psychologist assessment. But my GP said they could not make the referral to an educational psychologist. So I am looking for an alternative way to get the referral.

Sorry I was unable to help. I'm still a bit lost off, as, for example in the following website, it says that an educational psychologist's report is for children below the age of 19. This about a private assessment. Please see: https://www.gopsych.co.uk/private-educational-assessment-psychologist.html
Other websites say similar, & some fees mentioned seem to be £300-£500+.
Could you go back to adult social services saying your GP can't make the referral they wish? See if they would accept any such reports that may be in your medical notes, which you can get from your GP at no cost to yourself.

My social worker is going to contact my GP and take it from there.

If you are still in education either college or university  you can ask to see the counselling service there who can make a referral or you can ask you gp to refer you

I am going back to college in September. So I could make an appointment with the counselling service and see whether I could get a referral that way. Thank you.
