Hi there, I've been asked by UC if I'm caring for my husband as I'm sure they aren't paying me enough each month. Well I am his career and he's mine but I'm not sure we'd be any better off claiming careers for each other as I understand if they pay you that benefit then they take money OFF you elsewhere.
Does anybody know if this correct?

    If you claim Carer's Allowance then it will indeed be deducted from the UC but the UC calculation would include an additional amount called the carer element.
    However you do not need to claim Carer's Allowance to get the carer element of UC. If you are eligible it should be added anyway.
    To advise you properly we need to know:
    Have either of you been found to have LCWRA for UC?
    Do either of you receive mid or high rate Care DLA, Daily Living PIP or AA?
