I’m confused, if I claimed today for example for 3 months backdate wouldn’t it start from 3 months ago (including the 12 weeks it may take) or start from that date?

It would be 3 months prior to the date you claim.

Thank you so much, everything makes more sense now. Would my council tax be affected at all? I did read mine or his could be affected but I can’t remember where I read that?

Your Dad's won't be affected because it's you claiming the CA not him. CA is taxable income but i have no idea if you council tax would be affected, all local councils have their own rules. You should report the changes when your claim starts.

It can take anything up to 12 weeks to claim the CA, when you do claim it make sure you put the start date to backdate for 3 months. Best way to claim is online. https://www.gov.uk/carers-allowance/how-to-claim

I can’t find anything on the hull city council
websire at all to give me an idea I  may have to call

So it would basically be if it took 12 weeks, 15 weeks worth?

No, if it took 12 weeks then it would be this plus the 3 months. There's more than 4 weeks in a month so my advice is to put 3 months prior to today rather than 12 weeks. So put 6th June as the start date, if you claimed today.

No, if the decision took 12 weeks the arrears due at that time would be 12 weeks plus 3 months (which is roughly 25 weeks).
