Blue badge

As far as I am aware the " points " required to get a blue badge are 12 and above for an automatic acceptance, but, like the mobility side of your claim you still have to provide evidence of that.
For those that score under 12 you can still apply and still are required to provide evidence of your DLA claim.
As you may know, you can use the Blue Badge as a Passenger or Driver, and have to read the paperwork that comes with it as most apply to street parking and they suggest " off road parking you look at the signs posted as some car parks give free limited car parking for holder of the badge, " as long as it is displayed correctly " or even on display and shut, may invalidate your parking.
I have had many who have had a ticket from Parking Eye on designated parking and asked them how did they display the badge, most say it was not on display or the clock was not on show or the valid date displayed to show you are entitled to park.
The Blue Badge people are very nice to talk to and if struggling with any thing will talk you through the form. It takes about 10 days to get the badge once received.
Hope this helps.

Hi @onebigvoice
I appreciate you’ve prefixed your opening sentence with ‘as far as I’m aware’ reflecting this is your current understanding rather than fact but getting 12+ PIP points doesn’t necessarily entitle people to a blue badge. More-so, automatic qualification depends on how many points were received within the mobility component of the individual's award.
Using the government webpage on ‘Who can get a blue badge’, we can see for blue badge automatic qualification people must:
be aged 3 or over [with] at least one of the following appl[ying]:
· you receive the higher rate of the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
· you receive a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) because you can’t walk more than 50 metres (a score of 8 points or more under the ‘moving around’ activity of the mobility component)
· you are registered blind (severely sight impaired)
· you receive a War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement
· you have received a lump sum benefit within tariff levels 1 to 8 of the Armed Forces and Reserve Forces (Compensation) Scheme and have been certified as having a permanent and substantial disability that causes inability to walk or very considerable difficulty in walking
· you receive the mobility component of PIP and have obtained 10 points specifically for descriptor E under the ‘planning and following journeys’ activity, on the grounds that you are unable to undertake any journey because it would cause you overwhelming psychological distress
If you have any score other than 10 points under descriptor E, in the ‘planning and following journeys’ activity of PIP you may still be eligible for a Blue Badge, but you do not automatically qualify. This includes if you have a higher score of 12. You will have to provide evidence to demonstrate your eligibility which will be assessed as part of your application. While there is also a list of people ‘who may get the blue badge’ further down the same webpage. Please be mindful of fact checking information, in line with our community house rules, to avoid inadvertently providing incorrect guidance.
This ‘The blue badge scheme: rights and responsibilities in England’ webpage has extensive guidance on all things blue badge too for anyone wondering about the ins and outs of the system.
@forstgump Looking at the eligibility criteria, do you think you might qualify for a blue badge?

Even this is incorrect. You don't score points with a DLA claim... Points are scored for a PIP claim.

I really don’t see the point in posting a ‘insofar as I am aware’ comment on the qualifying criteria (incorrectly) when I had already posted a link to the gov.uk page which sets out the full criteria. I deliberately chose not to post extracts from it because OP needs to understand the full range of qualifying routes.1 -
Glad this has come up, as I shall be applying for a Blue Badge, so good to know the facts.0
