Hi everyone, and Good Friday morning. my uncle told me about this forum so thought I would give it a try. I am currently suspended from my job in retail due to my severe ADHD, and outburst/anger. and they said the likely hood is I am going to lose my job. this would be the fourth job I have been sacked, if I lose my job what benefits can I apply for? I am currently getting PIP ... but I wouldn't be able to actively seek work as my condition is that bad hence 4 jobs and all sacked, what benefits can I go on providing I do lose my job and have no money coming in apart from PIP? I wouldn't be able to attend assessments or meetings due to my ADHD and severe anger issues. to which I have many many doctors reports. hope to hear from you all. cheers, John.

Hi and welcome to the community
First off try a benefits calculator to see what you could be entitled to found on gov website
You could possibly claim new style esa if you have paid enough ni contributions in the past 2 tax years
If not uc
However both of these would result in a work capability assessment at some point but you could request a paper based assessment with support letter from your gp0 -
Hi,As janer has advised, for New style ESA you need to have paid the correct amount of NI contributions in tax years April 2018 to March 2020. You will need a fit note from your GP for this. The work capability assessment involved is simialar to PIP but with different criteria. Most people have assessments, paper based assessments are rare but if enough of evidence is sent then it's possible.UNiversal Credit is a means tested benefit and whether you qualify will depend on your circumstances. If you live with a partner you claim as a couple. If you have savings of more than £16,000 you're excluded from claiming. Savings of between £6,000 and £16,000 will see a reduction in your UC. You will need to report your health condition when you claim and send a fit note from your GP. The work capability assessment process for this is the same as ESA.If you claim both of the above together the ESA is deducted in full from any UC entitlement.0

@poppy123456 many thanks for your reply, I am currently getting paid by my employer £300 every week, so don't think I would be entitled to any benefits bar my PIP. if I lose my job I will apply for ESA. is it only PIP you can legally get while your working?0

No, people work and claim benefits. It would be Universal Credit you would claim if you’re entitled but you should use a benefits calculator first before applying to check entitlement. UC is based on earnings received during your monthly assessment period.0
