VAT Relief

Hi,
I'm not sure if people know but some items that support disabled people qualify for VAT relief i.e aids.
This VAT relief can also be used for certain building work like ramps to the house or building a downstairs loo. The company does need to be VAT registered and agree to be part of the VAT relief scheme but it can save you some money.
I'm not 100% sure of the full criteria, I spoke to the HMRC today regarding my circumstances for clarification and although it took about 40 minutes to get through.
The above is only intended for people to consider as something to explore should they be buying something or have an adaptation made to their house, it isn't intended as 100% guidance as I'm still learning it myself. It's well worth exploring though.
Thanks,
Daniel

2024 The year of the general election...the time for change is coming 💡

The government site does cover most parts but there are some crossovers that obviously it doesn't cover (it can't cover ever option) but if you look on the VAT form it has their helpline who were really helpful.
My situation is I'm looking for a bungalow (that preferably isn't massively overpriced and in need of a complete refurb) or add a small extension to the house that has a bathroom and bedroom, the VAT relief is a massive help and one I didn't instantly thing of.
@woodbine thanks for referencing the government site as it does have a lot of useful information on there. -
Thanks for sharing this, hopefully others find it useful.Online Community CoordinatorConcerned about another member's safety or wellbeing? Flag your concerns with us.
