Hello! My name is Alex, today is my first day as an Online Community Coordinator at Scope. I thought I'd introduce myself :)

I have cerebral palsy (CP) and I'm a part-time wheelchair user, full-time nerd. I'm passionate about ancient cultures, especially Egyptology. I'm a big tennis fan and an avid gamer, amongst other things.

I'm really excited to be a part of the community and to get to know you all.

    No doubt I will, thanks @MarkM88, I think life would be boring if we weren't a little bit mad!

    Hi and welcome to the community from me too

    Have you ever been to Egypt? I have been a couple of times I'm not really into stuff like that but it was fascinating and a eye opener

    @janer1967 I have indeed, many years ago now, 2008! I went on a Nile cruise with family and stayed an extra week in Luxor. It's a trip I'll never forget! Hopefully I'll go back one day. One thing that sticks in the memory is being lifted up the stairs in the ship, while still in my chair(!) by the crew. I think my life flashed before my eyes  :D

    @Alex_Scope

    I went on the nile cruise too must have been around 1996 so long time ago and b4 I was disabled thankfully as we had to scramble down a rocky embankment to get on the ships

    They were all lined up and you had to go through them one by one till you got to yours

    Hello @Alex_Scope - & welcome to the community. :) I'm pleased to 'meet' you, & hope you enjoy being here. We are an unruly friendly lot really. I share your interest in Egyptology. 2 visits to the British Museum is the nearest I've been, & I couldn't manage to get past the Egyptology section (altho I'm interested in other ancient civilisations).

    Hi @Alex_Scope welcome to the forum. I love all things history. Not been to Egypt, the closest I got was to veiw the hoard display in London.

    That's right, we had to do that on ours too! Clearly it's a good system, minus the rocky embankment of course.

    Hi @chiarieds thanks for the welcome. The big national museums in London are so vast it's a wonder anyone can see everything there, even if they visit once a week! Lots of museums have taken some positive steps by doing more virtual tours, especially during the pandemic. It's not quite the same as the real thing, but at least you can avoid the crowds! :)

    Ahh that's cool, which one was that? I can only think of Sutton Hoo, but my more recent history is patchy  :D

    37 months now, like everything to do with time it's flown by.
    That's amazing! I'm sure that's been especially helpful during the pandemic, your own 'social network' ready to go, never mind zoom
