Ill Health Retirement
Hello, I am wondering if anybody can share their experience of the process of ill health retirement. I have been assessed by the independent medical practitioner at Tier 1 but since receipt of the medical report and certificate my employer has gone quiet and has not authorised the medical documentation for LGPS, its now over a month and they wont tell me the reason for the delay. Is this usual does anybody know, welcome your thoughts as its driving me mad.

Hi @bennix68 your ahead of me if i remember rightly do/did you work with the NHS.
I have only just had my 1st interview with our hr (council)
She said they will be intouch to see how i am and if i've heard about my opp. next month.
I have not told them yet tho that i will be intending to go on early retirement, i've been a little bizi this week i am going to see if i can get PIP0 -
Hi there
If you haven't had an update I would imagine it maybe the pension provider where the hold up is as they are the ones who will need to authorise this0 -
Hi All. Many thanks for the responses. Finally got pension sorted thank you and am now in receipt of my pension. It was a really long process and at times extremely frustrating. Sue, I worked in education, good luck with your opp and early retirement. If you intend to apply for i’ll health retirement & PIP, my advice is to gather as much of your medical records you can to evidence your condition(s) and how they affect you. These will support any applications. Good luck x3

@bennix68
Hi can I enquire about the process for you and if possible your condition and which consultants did the reports for you. Did you supply an impact statement of any sort?
Many thanks but understand if this is too personal0 -
Yes of course. I have for the last 5 years gradually deteriorated in my condition. Psoriasis Arthritis, bulging disc and several other disabilities. I am in the lgps scheme and it’s important to get all your information and ducks in a row. As they have been successful wondered if they can give some advice on what and how they did.Hope that helps.1

Was you still claiming sick pay from work when you started the process - hope you don't mind me asking.
I'm on my second month of half pay and didn't know whether to start the ball rolling when i have my next telephone appointment in approx one months time, any advice ??0 -
i think the key is making sure your consultants understand what you need rather than being paid sick or not. If you leave or resign terms won’t be probably as good if you do after leaving. I had an oh app where they have brought up the possibility of IHR if work can’t adjust to my needs. At moment I spend 20 hours a day horizontal due to spine pain. Good luck and keep us informed.0

Sorry the medical consultants. If you apply for IHR there are tiers and the “independent” medical assessor will take your medical evidence from you medical professionals ( consultants)

I was granted a Tier 3 in January and appealed to Tier 1 as I had medical evidence from my specialist to support that (or so both I & Citizens Advice thought!) I've just had my IDPR1 refused by the Appeals Manager who says there is insufficient evidence to take this any further. The letter then says I can have the decision looked at again, but doesn't mention an IDRP2?
Please can you help or suggest someone who can. I don't know where to get help with the next stage.0
