Housing benefit query.

Hi all.

I have been trying to contact my housing office without any success so I hope for your help.

I am 74, single and currently in receipt of my pension, both PiPs, severe disability and housing benefit.

I now need help, so my daughter and granddaughter (both adults) are coming to live with me.
My daughter works full time and granddaughter is a student but also works only part time.

I had read somewhere that because of my disabilities there is a 26 week period where this situation wouldn't affect my housing benefit, just incase circumstances changed again.

Can anyone tell me if this is true or It was false information?.

Many thanks in advance.

    When you're exempt

You're exempt if you or your partner are registered blind, or if either of you get any of the following benefits:

    • personal independence payment (PIP) - daily living component

    • disability living allowance (DLA) - care component

    • attendance allowance

    • armed forces independence payment

Your housing benefit can't be reduced by non dependant deductions.

    See link. https://england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice/benefits/housing_benefit_deductions_when_living_with_non_dependants

However, if you are currently claiming Pension Credit which includes the Severe Disability premium then you will no longer be entitled to this SDP (£67.30 per week). All changes need to be reported.

Also If you're currenly claiming the single person discount in your council tax then you will no longer be entitled to this.
