My little dog has changed my life but can't believe how clever she is

I suffer from chronic pain, some days I cannot move. My daughter bought me a shichi two years ago and she has changed my life.

She provides me with so much support and we have never been apart. She is a great companion but i cannot believe how clever she is.

If i have a fall and no one is around she will go and get help and then runs back and sits with me and comforts me. When I go to the toilet, she will run up the stairs and open the toilet door or in the morning will open the door.

Last year i suffered from Kidney stones and she ran and got me help and would not leave my side until the paramedics came out.

And one thing that really surprised me was when i came out of hospital I was in a lot of pain because i did not want to have the operation to have the kidney stone removed due to COVID worries. But, when i went to the toilet I was struggling to pull my pants down. She went to one side without me knowing and pulled one side down, and then went to the other and pulled that side down. I could not believe it. She is only small.

She seems to know when I am in pain because as soon as I am in pain which I try to hide from my wife she will climb up for a cuddle and comfort me.

There are lots of other great things she does. But, if you suffer from chronic pain or if you are ill and have to spend time at home due to being unable to work, then a dog could change your life.

Hi @happyfella you're so lucky, I had a staffie just before lockdown, but she was old  and just passed in the January, so lockdown was really bad for me,  and being on my own was a dreadful experience, even in old age she would cuddle up,love and miss her dearly

So sorry to hear of your loss. My dog has been a real comfort during lockdown. Not sure how I would have got through it without her.

So heartwarming to read your story @happyfella, thank you for sharing it with us. A dog can help in so many ways, for people with a wide variety of conditions. I have sight loss but don't own a guide dog, however I have spent time around others who do have one, and the relationship they have with their dog is incredible.

Sorry to hear of your loss @Ivor121
