Mild Cerbral Palsy

Hi, My son is 18 months old and i noticed at 9 months old that he did not use his right hand. It was such a struggle to get the professionals to take me seriously. He has finally been diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy of the right hand side that affects his right arm, hand, leg and foot. I am still fighting for physio and occupational therapy which they have agreed to do but are dragging their heels. Does anyone have any advice regarding this as I want him to have the best start to treatment possible. Should I apply for DLA? I'm so new to this, I have two other children and have never had any concerns about their health so this is very hard to come to terms with and just feels guilty all of the time. Thank you for reading

Hello @Cayla_88
Welcome to the community and thank you for introducing yourself and your son, I'm sorry to hear that the health professionals didn't take you seriously at first, that must have been frustrating. However, I'm glad that you now have a diagnosis and can proceed with getting him support.
I'm glad that they have agreed to treatment, but obviously it's a shame that you feel as though they are dragging their heels. Have you asked why it is taking so long? Perhaps there are just delays and such that are causing things to take a bit longer.
I have moved your discussion over to our CP category, which you might like to browse for related discussions, and Scope also has a Parents Connect service which you can read more about here.
Furthermore, I will tag in @Richard_Scope in case he has any suggestions.
Regarding benefits, I would suggest filling out a benefits calculator to try and estimate whether you could claim anything, and you can view some information here about DLA.0
