Your positive or negative experiences of parks or playgrounds

Scope would like to here from any parents or carers about any particularly good or bad parks and playgrounds you know of.

If you are comfortable with sharing your experience, we would only need to know where it is (town / city name would suffice) and why it is or isn't suitable for disabled children.

If you would feel more comfortable sending this information privately then you are more than welcome to send me a private message on the community.

Thank you

My cousin lives in Liverpool and sent me the link to a really cool park/playground where everything was specifically designed for wheelchair users, though this was a few years ago, so I’m not sure if it’s still there or how popular it was.

Hi Ross, The standard of inclusive play areas in my view (along with other inclusive sports and public open space) has much scope for improvement. I’m just in the process of writing a report on the matter with the dream of getting a magic bridge play area ( This is a big fully inclusive play area which they have in America)  in Devon. Is there anyone in Scope who might be able to get involved? https://magicalbridge.org/site/

Hi and thank you for telling us about this, your initiative sounds really positive :) Did you read about Scope's Let's Play Fair campaign that has been ongoing lately?

It might be worth getting in touch with our campaigns team at campaigns@scope.org.uk, they would probably be better placed to answer your query :)

I go to parks alot with grandkids and not one is catered for children with disability.  Yes the walk areas have wheelchair access on the paths, but the play area doesn't  have anything. Might be worth council's getting on board with that.
