Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone can help me. I’ve recently applied for ESA I believe it was the new style ESA and I have a few questions. I already get higher rate PIP both sections. I’ve seen some stuff about premiums but not sure I get them/how much I get on the new style ESA and when are they added to my claim? Sorry for all the questions.

You cannot get premiums added to new style ESA.
Premiums applied to income based ESA which has now been replaced by Universal Credit (which does not include premiums).
Have you checked entitlement to UC? If you have a partner you both have to claim and entitlement is based on your joint circumstances. If you have capital over £16,000 you cannot claim. If you do claim it will end any older income based benefits you claim (such as Tax Credits, housing benefit etc).0 -
No single man. No partner live at home. So basically all j get is the one off payment and no premiums that don’t make sense but is what it is0

It make sure sense because the benefits system is changing and UC works (or doesn’t) in a different way.
If you have no other income and are in the ESA Support Group you are likely to qualify for some UC to top up your ESA (unless you are excluded by capital).0 -
Jesus new style ESA must have really effected people who are on pip0

Hi
You can only get new style esa if you have paid enough ni contributions in the last 2 tax years
If not it will be uc if you report a health condition and are found to have lcwra after the work capability assessment there is additional element of uc paid

Not sure what you mean by this New style ESA has nothing to do with a PIP claim. There are other advantages to claim NsESA, for example it's not means tested so savings/capital do not affect the amount you're entitled to.0 -

Yes previously been working! I have Bi-Polar which has really flared up! All I was saying was old style ESA If you got pip there would be a few premiums added to your benefit disability premiums etc! Looks like the new style has stopped this. Hence why people on PIp and who claim new style ESA are worse off then they was before.0

Although you won't be worse off will you because you've not claimed the old Income Related ESA. Universal Credit has replaced the old means tested benefits and there's no disability premiums payable with this either. However, if placed into the Support Group and you claim UC as well (if entitled) as the ESA then UC would top up your income but the ESA will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement.
