Housing Element/Benifit. What information is shared between UC and the housing association?

Hi, Ive never set up housing benifit for an association before. Can someone tell me what information DWP ask from the association and if the association will be told if I get awarded the benifit or is that data protection and only between me and UC? (I’m just curious because I have no idea what’s shared between them)

They’ll send a notice to the housing association asking them to confirm:

    * you are a tenant of theirs
    * how much your rent is
    * how much your eligible service charges are
    * if you have any rent free weeks
    * is there is anyone else named on the tenancy agreement
    * how many bedrooms the property has

The housing association will therefore know you have a claim but they will not know what your total UC award amount is or even your UC payment dates.
If you are in arrears for your rent or struggling to pay it the housing association can ask for any rent element to be paid to them.

Thank you Rosey. Do you have any idea if it did get rejected for whatever reason, would they inform the housing association or is that confidential? (It shouldn’t but I’m a massive worrier and just want to make sure I know all the facts for everything )

You mean if your UC claim gets rejected?
they’d have no reason and no basis for telling the housing association.

Also if the details you entered don’t match what the housing report [say for example you both give different rent amounts] UC would ask you whether you agree with what the housing association have reported.

I’m already on UC, I just meant would they know if my housing element was awarded to my current UC claim. Sorry I’m full of worry for some stupid reason (I have anxiety issues). Thank you for your help
