Hi, my name is Tracey, i have a daughter aged 30 and a son aged 22. My daughter was recently diagnosed with autism, She lives alone with her 2 children but myself and my husband support her heavily to include having our grandson 5 nights a week. Our daughter cannot get PIP as she has been turned down with 0 points. She is made to sign on every week. She wont get on public transport and relies heavily on family. Is there anywhere out there to support adults as i seem to hit a wall. I have to advocate for her too.

I also work in a school for pupils with autism diagnosis and it seems children can get support and help and parents get full pip for them but adults cant? The extra money would give her more independence and she wouldn't feel pressured and extremely anxious about the pressure to work.

Hi Libby, thank you so much for the response and advice :-)

You mention PIP but then say "your daughter needs to sign on each week" claiming PIP has nothing to do with signing on. This would be Universal Credit or JSA.Has she recently had a decision on a PIP claim? If so was that decision within the past 13 month? Is she claiming Universal Credit? or JSA?0

i am not sure would need to check, her children are above 5 so now the jobs centre have said she needs to sign on for her money.. she has no qualifications and is low academically.. she also has difficulty with information processing..... this on top of her social skills difficulties... i think the decision was over 13 months ago maybe just before the pandemic started0

Difficult to advise without the correct information. If it's UC she's claiming then she can report a change of circumstances and report her health condition. She will need a fit note from her GP within 7 days of reporting the health condition. She will then go through the work capability assessment process. When claiming UC you're a job seeker until a decision on a work capability assessment says otherwise. For the PIP she can reapply but doing so using the same evidence that was previously used could see another refusal. Expert advice is needed before doing anything else. Start here. https://advicelocal.uk/
