What is Cerebral Palsy (CP) Awareness month?

March is Cerebral palsy awareness month, which is dedicated to the 17 million people diagnosed with Cerebral palsy around the world.

Let’s shed some light on cerebral palsy, shall we? It’s a condition that affects the movements of the limbs and overall body. It can also affect vision and hearing. With cerebral palsy, moving can appear to be stiff, jagged, or very active and sporadic. Moving in the right way, or right direction, can be challenging and take patience.

I like to compare having cerebral palsy with faulty wiring in a computer. You might hit Enter, but the computer thinks you’re hitting the Delete key. As you can guess, this can be frustrating, but people with cerebral palsy can and do adapt and are able to live their lives.

This month we want to start a conversation about living with CP and raise awareness, alongside our friends at CP SportBobath who are running special events and Adult CP Hub who are joint sponsors, with Scope of the APPG on Adults living with Cerebral Palsy.  The final report from the APPG will be released later this month. The report looks to improve access to services and the full participation of people living with Cerebral Palsy in society. The report draws on the lived experiences of people in the CP community. Check back on the community to read the final report!

We would love to hear your stories or see your photos, anything that tells your story. You can do this by posting on the community and on social media by using the hashtag #LetsTalkCerebralPalsy and tagging @scope
