why are people still being made to isolate?

I wanted to go and visit my late sisters neighbours in her care home but I was told I am sorry but we are in lockdown. Fair enough I understand how careful they have to be. I would not mind risking it because life is too short. So a few weeks later. I politely rang to try again. The manageress wanted me to go through all sorts of hoops and obstacles and I wanted to say ,blow it I wont bother. However, I cannot do that because it is the residents who lose out. I would just like to feel a bit more welcomed? They do not get many visitors as it is and this just puts people off. When will it all end? My sisters last two years of her life were ruined by being kept apart from her family. I know every resident in that home would rather take a risk than being stuck in every so often.

I can understand your frustrations @nightjars, but as you say they have to be extremely careful with it. Many establishments are continuing to have rules in place despite national ones being lifted, 

Did you end up seeing them? you mentioned having to jump through hoops to get in, did you eventually pass the checks and see them? Hopefully so.

I know it isn't the same, but have you considered video calls with them?

I understand you'd frustration but how would you feel if you visited the home and you had no symptoms but had the virus and then passed it onto all the residents ? 

I agree we have yo get back to normality but there are probably clinically vulnerable residents and the home has a duty of care to protect them 

Myself and my son currently have covid and he isn't allowed in school

Hi Janer and Ross, the problem is I have been following the rules for nearly two years. At times I got to see my sister with safety precautions put in place. Video calls alarmed her, really not the same and they were not made easily available. My problem is that even when it is okay to go in the manageress is very unwelcoming. Other visitors have been put off but I am close to the residents and will not let them down. Im sorry to read janer that you have covid and hope you both get clear soon. My sister had covid last year and they have had several bouts, all brought in by the staff.

The manageress being unwelcoming isn't good hope she treats the residents with a bit more compassion
