Quoting previous posts in new message

Is this a glitch or is it a change to the way the forum is hosted?

This afternoon when quoting previous posts they have been appearing in boxes with only the o[ part of the previous post visible and no means to edit it down so only the bit being replied to is quoted. If it's a change it really isn't helpful particlarly if trying to reply item by item to a previous long post or simply trying to respond to a small item in the middle of a post.

(Mods - really didn't know where to put this so have stuck it in benefits because that is what I post about. Feel free to move somewhere else.)

Thanks Calcotti. I believe this is working as intended, but I agree it isn't very useful. We will feed back immediately to our providers.

Yep thought it was me @calcotti - i've just noticed on this quot to you i've now got an arrow at the bottom right corner of your fading conversation it says view post, i've just tried it and a bin comes up at the top of your post. Just noticed a chevron aswel when i pressed it it showed your full chat.

I was afraid you would say that! (Which is why I've resorted to copying the bit I want to reply to and pasting it as part of the message instead of using 'Quote'.)

I have no objection to the box (which seems to avoid the problem of message and quote getting mixed up which was the previous problem) but I would like to be able to edit the box content down.

I noticed this today too and personally, i think it's terrible and has only made commenting very confusing, especially when trying to quote part of a comment. My thoughts are, if it's not broken don't fix it.

I agree @poppy123456, it's not good at all. As you say, if the original way of quoting was working fine then I don't see why it should change. As somebody who uses a screen reader, I also find it much less accessible than how it worked previously. Hopefully it can be improved or reverted back to how it was.

We also seem to have lost the ability to use bold or italics which could also be helpful for highlighting things.

It's a shame that those options aren't as visible now, but it can still be done by highlighting the text you want to make bold and then pressing on the button that pops up.

On the same pop up menu there is also an option for italic and a couple of other formats.

If you highlight the text you are hoping to bold or italicise, it should come up with the option to do so.

Thanks Ross and Adrian for explaining that - perhaps I would have discovered it in due course but it’s certainly less obvious.

I'm another that thinks it would be preferable to go back to how things were. I use 'copy & paste' & put quote marks around when needed, but certainly how to use bold/italics is less obvious.

Also no option to preview a comment, which I've always found useful to check any links I give work, just 'Save draft' & 'Post comment.'

That's been happening for a very long time. I find, if you don't leave any space between a paragraph, when you post the comment there will be a space. If you leave a space then there will be double spaces between a paragraph.
