We have extended your pip award letter and its standing in legality

My wife and i got one of these letters in January 2021 saying “We have extended your pip award”, Pip was extended till 2023 and my wife also got a certificate of entitlement in June, 5month later, stating by the wording that she is receiving PIP till 2023 and entitled to free tax till 14th January 2023.
But in February this year, my wife got an Award review - how your disability affects you form, and i was told by the carers allowance unit my wife’s pip will end in April 2022, the original date.
My question is, is the letter she received extending her claim not legal and binding? Surely they cannot stop her claim earlier? And why did they send her the review form now? I raised this with the department but was told i had to fill it in no matter what.

They extended a lot of people awards due to the backlogs caused by the pandemic. They are not legally binding.Although the award has been extended, this doesn't mean she wasn't due her review, which can be anytime. As the form has been received she will need to fill it in and return it. If she doesn't do this then her current PIP award could stop. You will need to contact Carers Allowance to tell them that the PIP was extended due to Covid and the carers allowance will then continue. As always with PIP reviews, any new decision will overrule the current award. If successfully awarded a new end date will be given. If not successful then the PIP will end once the decision's been made.0

Yes it will just continue until a decision's been made. PIP awards have never been legally binding and new decision's always overrule a current award. If they didn't do reviews before the award ends, the likelyhood of not having an award in payment would be very high. If successfully awarded, there won't be a problem because you'll have the end date extended further.
