Hello,

I have feeling really low over the last few days. My mum has cancer and is dealing with the side effects of the chemo she is on at the moment. I help her as much as I can but I have Cerebral palsy and can only do so much. She is frustrated because she is dealing with the side effects and is scared about the future which I completely understand, I am scared too. I feel isolated and want to make new friends. Thankyou for reading my post.

Hello https://forum.scope.org.uk/profile/Elizaje1990  :). A warm welcome to you. Thank you for reaching out and sharing your story. I can imagine this must be a difficult time for you and your family.

Yes I agree, having a support network of people that have your back is so important when going through an illness journey. Have you thought of joining a local social group? I know a Charity based in Oxford that supports people feeling lonely: https://archwayfoundation.org.uk/

I hope your Mum has a speedy recovery. I am sorry to hear about your situation. Sending you a hug. All the very best of luck!

Hi there @Elizaje1990 and welcome to the community, it's great to have you here :)

Thanks for posting and telling us a bit about yourself and your family. It's really positive to see that you've reached out for support, and I hope we can help you feel less isolated.

I'm sorry to hear about your mum, and I'm sure it's a stressful and worrying time for everyone. I'd like to share some organisations that can help support you both, when you need:

It is important to acknowledge that as you are living with Cerebral Palsy, you can only do so much, as you say. I'm sure your mum knows this, and it's clear that you want to help look after each other as much as you can.

I hope the forum will be helpful for you, I can encourage you to have a look around using our categories page. If you'd like to chat with other members with CP about similar experiences, you can visit our Cerebral Palsy page. And if you'd like to have more of a casual chat and spend some time playing games then the coffee lounge is the place to go.

Please let me know if you need a hand with anything, and I hope you enjoy making new friends here :)

    Alex

Thankyou forposting those links and giving me such a warm welcome! I haven't posted for a while as I was nervous about sharing my feelings but am feeling a bit better today :) Not sure how to tag people but liked the suggestion about joining a local group so will look into that :)

There's no pressure to post or reply before you feel ready, so don't worry about that @elizajae1990 :) I'm glad that you were feeling a little better yesterday. How are you feeling today?

You can tag people by typing @ and then the person's username, e.g. @Tori_Scope, or @Elizaje1990. If you have any trouble with that, please do let us know!

Sorry to hear that you weren't feeling great yesterday morning @Elizaje1990, but it's good that the writing project is something that helps you to feel better. It's always positive to have outlets like that :)
