Rehousing for Medical Reasons

Sounds like your councils system is very different.People here with medical conditions & children under 5 are only offered ground floor flats.
Bungalows are strictly 55-60(they do allow exceptions to younger disabled people or couples under very specific circumstances) but absolutely no children or babies(no exceptions)
Due to the extreme shortage or Bungalows and as they are no longer building more they tend to place older people(60+) in communal flats
But I’d imagine each council has their own policies regarding housing types.
If your already in a Council Home they will most likely adapt it for you rather than move you if possible though as this is usually their highest priority.0 -
I’m not I’m sharing a single room with my 2 year old in a house with stairs 🤦♀️ and my left arm is paralysed0

Thanks for the insight I was looking on mums net but this has been the most helpful0

It varies from each council but they might adapt your current home to make it suitable but I would imagine it would most likely be that they allow you onto their housing list to find a new home.
Pretty sure all councils use a Bidding system, every 1-2 weeks the website will go live for several days(usually 5 days) where you can place 2-3 bids on the properties currently on offer.
If they use the same bidding system it will tell you what your position is on the bids, anything higher than 3-5 is very unlikely.
Just bare in mind even if you show as Bid Position 1 you might not get the property as they have invisible bids(Bids placed by the staff for people unable to bid themselves or are in urgent need)0 -
I realise every council has its different terms I just need to hold tight and see what they say0

sarahw85 said:That’s great news Im in band c . I. had my medical assessment today and will hear back early next week . I’m a stroke survivor with a young baby , stairs are exhausting especially with the bathroom upstairs. I’m hoping they will say I’m eligible for a bungalow or ground floor maisonette I have sensory issues so I hope I don’t have to share facilities/ garden as noise is a problem.Does anyone know what they will say? Coukd I be moved to band b too ?Also did you have your area of choice met ?
My OT then contacted the LA and sent the assessment report to them. I was also sent a medical form to fill in and return. I didn't need any assessment because what my OT sent was enough of proof for the LA to move me up to urgent medical priority on 9th August 2023. The only one above this in my area is criteria priority for homeless people.
I could only bid on adapted properties and wasn't eligible for a bungalow because I live with my adult daughter and in my area I need to be 65 for a bungalow due to my circumstances. If I lived alone then the age is 55.
I placed 5 bids on various properties (houses) because I didn't want a flat. At the beginning or December I was contacted to offer me a 2 bed house. I then went to view it that same week and accepted the property. I picked up the keys on 18th December and moved in on 13th January. It has a wet room and they installed a stairlift about a month after I moved in. Yes, I got my preferred area, I was very very lucky.
Although there is a bidding system in place you can't see what position you're in, which I think is a good thing.

I was Band C with medical points for needing ground floor & wet room (after forms and OT assessment etc).
Band C is the lowest band that has any chance of being successful, Band D is a token gesture of the LA accepting your application.
I expected a wait of 2-3 years and was offered a property after 13 months!
Went from number 4 (system), number 2 (housing officer) then number 1 after the person ahead of me dropped out (found someone else).
It's a lovely flat, lovely neighbours and had everything on both my essential & nice to have lists.
I was able to bid on some bungalows but they are pretty scarce locally, my position was much higher than for flats and I made the choice not to wait because I wanted/needed out of where I was and fine with a flat.1 -
Great to see some positive stories thanks Kimmy x0

Good morning Sarah,
Thank you for your email.
I though I should let you know that I was ill last week and was off work from Wednesday until today. Due to this there was no medical panel meeting on Friday last week however they are weekly and so I will raise your application this Friday and will try to get back to you by midday on Monday 25th with the decision.
Please accept my apologIes
I’m absolutely fine with this had family over yesterday and today I’m mentally fatigued I can’t take much more information.. I’m happy to wait until next Monday
